Joe Buford is the Founder and CEO of SafeShot Instruction, LLC, where he serves as the senior certified firearms training instructor. With a wealth of experience in law enforcement and firearms training, Joe is dedicated to promoting safe and responsible firearm ownership.
Before establishing SafeShot in September 2024, Joe has been a valued member of the Detroit Police Department since 2016. In his role as a traffic control officer and former district dispatcher, he has ensured the safety and order across the six districts within the city.
Joe’s background includes owning and operating several successful small businesses, which has enriched his leadership and management skills. As a seasoned law enforcement officer and first responder, he has worked with multiple police departments, gaining extensive experience in firearms use and safety.
During his tenure with the Highland Park Police Department, Joe served as the coordinator of the reserve police officer program and property room control officer. In this capacity, he was responsible for the meticulous handling, record-keeping, and storage of numerous firearms.
An army veteran and former Inkster auxiliary police officer, Joe’s diverse background further solidifies his expertise in firearm handling and safety. He also held the rank of captain in the Michigan Wing Civil Air Patrol.
Joe earned an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice from Rhodes College, where he graduated as valedictorian and was a proud member of the National Criminal Justice Honor Society, Alpha Phi Epsilon.
As a concealed carry certified instructor with the United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), Joe is trained and authorized to teach comprehensive concealed carry training classes. He leverages his extensive knowledge to educate citizens about handgun laws, safety protocols, and the care required to obtain a concealed pistol license in Michigan.
